NBA News: Cavs? Dion Waiters to play only at shooting guard

Over the last few days, Cleveland Cavaliers fans have seen a more demonstrative head coach Mike Brown out with the team over at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League. Yesterday, Brown shed some light on how he views second-year guard Dion Waiters.

?I?m viewing him strictly as a 2-guard,? Brown said to the Akron Beacon Journal?s Jason Lloyd.

In Lloyd?s article, he shares Brown?s point of view that he wants Waiters to focus on just being a guard. That includes ?championship level basketball? on both ends of the court. Per Lloyd, the coach has been reviewing tape individually and emphasizing hustle plays with Waiters and fellow second-year player Tyler Zeller, who both are playing for the Vegas team.

According to Fear The Sword?s Conrad Kazcamarek, Brown was visibly pleased with how Waiters performed defensively in Thursday?s playoff victory over the San Antonio Spurs. In that game, Waiters scored 27 points with six rebounds, but Lloyd remarked how he seemed more aware and talked more defensively.

In college at Syracuse, Waiters came off the bench and played almost exclusively with the ball in his hands offensively. In his rookie season, then-head coach Byron Scott tried multiple times to have Waiters just play as a shooting guard, but he eventually relented to letting him control the ball in spurts, especially when All-Star Kyrie Irving was out of action.

With the free agent signing of combo guard Jarrett Jack, the Cavaliers have a much more proven option at the point guard position behind Irving this season. Jack is expected to play both guard positions, freeing up Waiters to spend more time as a shooting guard only. Last year, the only other potential point guards on roster were Shaun Livingston, Daniel Gibson, Jeremy Pargo, Donald Sloan and recently-released Chris Quinn.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will skip Android 4.2 in favor of 4.3 Jelly Bean

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

While the world is patiently awaiting a new Nexus tablet with a refreshed OS, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners are still hanging tight for an update to the current Android version. Well, there?s good news and bad news. It turns out that Samsung will not bring its second phablet iteration to version 4.2.2, instead it plans on getting the device up to speed with the upcoming release which is expected to be 4.3 Jelly Bean.

This may look like good news to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users, but the downside we see here is that owners will have to wait even longer for an update. Various reports in the past suggested that Android 4.2 was in testing and would be released to the phablet as well as last year?s flagship, the S3. However, a report last month noted that the upgrade had been delayed citing the hold up being related to the TouchWiz UI.

SamMobile is reporting that Australian carrier Telstra has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Jelly Bean 4.2 update has been withdrawn. The reason being that the company has ?elected globally? to skip the release and ?will instead go to a newer version of Android.? What?s interesting is that previous leaks have even suggested that the conglomerate plans on getting the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 running on 5.0 Key Lime Pie which is expected to arrive in October.

The provider goes on to say that no schedule has been provided as to when the Galaxy Note 2 will receive an update to version 4.3 Jelly Bean. Where the S3 is concerned, we suspect that the South Korean conglomerate will implement the same strategy and skip the current release for the upcoming version.

London Paralympian excited about IPC Athletics World Champs

Holly Robinson competes for New Zealand at the forthcoming IPC World Championships in Lyon, France this week (July 22). Athletics New Zealand?s Steve Landells chats to the teenage javelin thrower about the enormity of competing at the London Paralympics and her hopes for the biggest competition of her year.

If there is one subject that javelin thrower Holly Robinson never tires of talking about, it is the London Paralympics. There, last year, the Hokitika teenager enjoyed the experience of a lifetime, placing seventh in the F46 classification and competing in front of 80,000 fans at the Olympics Stadium.

"It was really cool, I?ve never competed in front of so many people before," explains the 18-year-old excitedly. "It was a completely different experience. It was amazing. The biggest crowd I?d ever competed in before was a few thousand people at the QEII Stadium (in Christchurch). I was so nervous."

Yet after performing with distinction in the cauldron of the Olympic Stadium, she admits in the month following her maiden Paralympic experience "I took a big drop back down to earth."

In short, the 18-year-old, who started a Bachelor of Applied Science (physical activity in health and wellness) at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin earlier this year, needed to re-focus.

"It was not really a lack of motivation, but there was a lack of focus," explains Holly, who has a missing arm below the elbow, honestly. "I?d come back from London and thought it was just another New Zealand season and it is not that big compared to the London Paralympics."

Yet after a ?reflections session? with her long-time coach Raylene Bates towards the end of the summer season, she rediscovered her focus and her performances improved.

"It wasn?t a terrible season, but it wasn?t great," admits Holly. "I got on top of it, in the end."

One area the Taieri thrower has worked hard on in recent months has been improving her strength in the gym, but she has also benefited from more throws sessions with the help of the state-of-the-art Forsythe Barr Stadium in Dunedin.

Her regular training venue at the Caledonian ground was unavailable because of the wet conditions and switching the 30,000 capacity indoor stadium, where she threw on a concrete slab rather than the grass, was invaluable.

"Getting in some more throws has been beneficial to both Rory (McSweeney, her training partner and fellow IPC World Championships performer) and myself."

Hailing from Hokitika, Holly, played representative netball for the West Coast and was a useful basketball player as a youngster, but after starting athletics as a runner she "was drawn" to the throws, initially starting out in discus and shot before switching to the javelin.

Sylvia's WaterColorBot takes to Kickstarter for the usual reason video

Fresh from impressing President Obama, Bill Nye and LeVar Burton, WaterColorBot -- sorry, Super Awesome Sylvia's WaterColorBot -- is ready for prime time. The makers are taking to Kickstarter in order to sell the robot, which transfers vector art and trackpad daubs to paper without the mess of doing it yourself. The team needs to scrounge together $50,000, and a pledge of $295 will get you an unassembled, DIY kit. If you want to see the unit in action (hosted by Super Awesome Sylvia herself,) then head past the break.
